Island Writers Association Founder Gives Book Signing at
Local Book Store
The
founder of
the West Island Writers Association and published author Henri
Schmit gave a book signing at the Clio bookstore located in the
Pointe-Claire Plaza on St-Jean Boul. in Pointe-Claire, QC on Saturday
February 7th, 2009 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Copies of his book "The
Best and Worst of Times", a compilation of short stories taken from the
author's own life experiences, were available for purchase and for
signing by the author. The Clio bookstore is located at:

those of you who couldn't attend the book signing and would like to

Breakfast meeting.
Several
of the West Island Writers Association members attended one in
the
series of annual Books and Breakfasts meetings held in a hotel
in downtown Montreal and 
organized by
Montreal's Paragraphe bookstore located on McGill avenue. The
members
were among the 300 or so individuals
who, during a lavish breakfast, had the opporunity to meet and
listen to the likes of Nino Ricci, Debbie Travis, Rawi Hage as they
spoke on their books and lives as writers. Yvon Cournoyer was
also in
attendance and promoting a book to celebrate the 100th anniversary of
the Montreal Canadiens' hockey franchise. After the breakfast and
presentations the WIWA members had the opportunity to personally meet
the writers and buy a signed copy of their books.
The
Books and Breakfasts meetings are held annually in Autumn and tickets
can be purchased ahead of time, contact Paragraphe bookstore or check
the local English Montreal papers for further information. Pictured

Published
member gives seminar at local library.
Norman
Wray, a member of WIWA and author of the book "SMALL BUSINESS
ENTREPRENEURSHIP ... Forget the MBA" gave a two hour seminar
at the Pointe Claire
library on the evening of Wednesday November 5th
during which he spoke about his book and personal accounts of his
experiences in business. The 30 or so attendees were given advice on
starting a business taken from several chapters of the book, were
guided through a prep list and were given pointers on finding funding
to start a business venture. Mr. Wray told anecdotes from his own
personal experiences having started several companies of which two went
public, presented some well known sayings from other acclaimed
entrepreneurs and also included his own:
"Real entrepreneaurs don't wait for their ship to come in, they swim
out and meet it."

WIWA meeting hosts first guest
The
members of the West Island Writers Association were treated to the
presence of their first guest on August 21, 2008. Deborah MacKay an
aspiring writers' agent and current manager for author Mark Fisher
dropped by to speak to the
association of her experiences managing Mr. Fisher and his
publishing efforts.
